Kiba-Dock Installation

This guide will show you two methods of installing kiba-dock. Method one will walk you through the steps of installing Kiba-Dock on Fedora 8 using Gauret's repository as our package source. Method two will use the svn to download the latest version and will walk you through the steps of compiling and installing kiba-dock.

(Important: Read agreement at bottom of document before continuing)

Method 1

  1. Click on Applications-System Tools-Terminal to open a terminal and then switch to root user.

    [jesse@lintush ~]$ su -
    [root@lintush ~]#

  2. Switch to the repository directory.
[jesse@lintush ~]$ cd /etc/yum.repos.d/
[root@lintush yum.repos.d]#
  1. Install wget and Add the Gauret repository.

    [root@lintush yum.repos.d]# yum install wget
    [root@lintush yum.repos.d]# wget http://gauret.free.fr/fichiers/rpms/fedora/gauret.repo

  2. Import the key for Gauret's repository.

    [root@lintush yum.repos.d]# rpm --import http://gauret.free.fr/fichiers/rpms/fedora/gauret.key.asc

  3. Install Kiba-Dock applications.

    [root@lintush yum.repos.d]# yum --enablerepo=gauret install kiba-dbus-plugins kiba-dock kiba-plugins amakaru

  4. Now add a session for Kiba-dock. Click on System-Preferences-Personal-Sessions to get the startup programs window.

  5. Click on the button +Add to add the kiba-dock session and type in what's in the fields below (you don't really need the comment) then click on OK.

  6. Log out and log back in and kiba-dock will appear at the bottom of screen.

  7. Adding launchers is easy, just drag them in from the menu or right click on Kiba-dock, scroll to Populate Dock and click on Add Launcher as shown in picture below.

  8. Now just double click on the launcher or application you want to add as shown in figure below and and the launcher appears on the Kiba-Dock.

Method 2

  1. Switch to home directory.

    [jesse@lintush ~]$ cd ~

    [jesse@lintush ~]$ make
    [jesse@lintush ~]$ sudo make install

  9. Check for the directory(/usr/lib/kiba-dock/global_plugins). If it doesn't exist then run the following command.

    [jesse@lintush ~]$ sudo mkdir /usr/lib/kiba-dock/global_plugins

  10. Now add kiba-dock to a session and add launchers. Follow steps 6-10 from installation method 1.

Kiba-Dock has got to be the best docking bar around. It has some very nice special effects with the physics engine. Also, turning off the physics engine allows you to use it as a docking bar similar to that of the MacOS.

Have you tried to rebuild it in F9 and see if it works that way?
